About us

Over 65 million people worldwide have fled their country due to violence, war or human rights violation. Stichting Vluchteling (Refugee Foundation Netherlands) is synonymous with direct aid for victims of acute distress. Worldwide our aim is directed to refugees and displaced persons. We respond to the worlds worst humanitarian crises, providing emergency aid, shelter, medical care food, clean drinking water and sanitary facilities to those in need.

  • International alliance:  Since 2015, Stichting Vluchteling is in partnership with the International Rescue Committee, one of the biggest and most experienced humanitarian aid organisations worldwide. Before 2015, Stichting Vluchteling and the IRC cooperated closely in a large number of programmes. By cementing the bond with the IRC, Stichting Vluchteling will have even better access to crisis areas, information and aid programmes in almost 50 countries.
  • Emergency relief:  Whenever an acute refugee crisis occurs, Stichting Vluchteling steps in as soon as possible. A specialized emergency rescue team provides the care that is most needed - primary medial care, food, drink and shelter. Stichting Vluchteling also provides (emergency) relief in protracted crises. Such as medical care, drinking water and sanitarily facilities in refugee camps. We focus primarily on support in the direct vicinity of or in conflict areas, with the largest numbers of refugees.
  • Rebuilding after disaster:  Once refugees have returned home or resettled, Stichting Vluchteling also provides assistance by clearing land mines, rebuilding schools and/or health care facilities and setting up psycho-social programmes to deal with trauma.
  • Collaboration:  When exceptional humanitarian disasters take place, Stichting Vluchteling joins it’s force with 10 other Dutch aid organisations in a national Giro555 fundraising campaign. Stichting Vluchteling also partners up with Humanity House and is associated with both VFI and NGF (Dutch fundraising institutions).
  • We speak up:  Sometimes, providing emergency aid alone is just not enough. That’s when we speak up. We bring public attention to neglected humanitarian emergencies, advocate on behald of the oppressed and those displaced by violence. Stichting Vluchteling is a member of the International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA). Furthermore, we consider it our mission to inform and educate the Dutch public about the worldwide refugee issues. We do so by, amongst others, campaigning online and offline and joining public debates.
  • Support:  The work of Stichting Vluchteling is only possible thanks tot the support of 110.000 donors, the National Postcode Lottery and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
